Yesterday forenoon the Union S.S. Co.'s coastal steamer Orowaiti arrived from Wellington, with a quantity of transhipments ex the direct steamer Rimutaki, These were , safely landed during the day, and the vessel sailed again in the evening for Greymouth. The brigantine Anthons had gone to the Hobson-street Wharf to complete her loading for Sydney. At 10.30 a.m. the Union S.S. Co.'s Janet Nicoll, Captain McLean, arrived with a couple of passengers and a cargo of breadstuffs, produce, etc.. from the South. She left Dunedin, at 5 a.m., on the 25th ult., and called at Oamaru, Timaru, Napier, and Gisborne. Leaving latter port at midnight on the 30th ult. she arrived as above, having experienced fine weather throughout the trip. . f "-■■..' ■ ■ ■>.."• ■•'• . - Just before 9 o'clock yesterday morning, the Union S.S. Co.'s steamer ManaDoun arrived from the South, with passengers and cargo. From the purser, Mr. R. Guy, we learn that she sailed from the Queen's Wharf, Melbourne, on the- 17th ultimo, and arrived at Hobart on the 19tb,'at 8.30 a.m. She left

the same day at 12.15 p.m., and had strong S. W. gales till her arrival at the Bluff, on the 22nd .ultimo at.4 p.m..sailing next day 5.16 E.m. She called, at Dunedin on the 25th, ytteltori on the 26th, Wellington on the 27th, Napier on the 29fch, and Gisborne on the 30th. She left the latter port the same day at 9.45 a.m., and on the coast had variable winds and fine weather. On the Manapouri being berthed, her cargo was discharged with all expedition, and some mixed freight shipped for Sydney, i whither the steamer sailed shortly after 5 o'clock. The barque Scottish Admiral has shifted to the Queen-street Wharf, to take in her cargo of colonial produce for London. The Union S.S. Co.'s Mararoa, Captain Chatfield, reached port yesterday at 10 a.m., from Sydney, with a number of passengers and general freighting. Mr. R. McLennan, purser, states that she left Sydney wharf at 6.20 p.m. on the 26th ultimo, and cleared Port Jackson at 7.10 p.m. She had light to fresh easterly winds all the way to North Cape, and thence light south-east to arrival. The Three Kings •were breasted at 1.20 p.m. on the 30th, and the steamer rounded North Cape 5.40 p.m. the same day. She passed Tiritiri at 8.45 yesterday morning, and arrived as above. On the trip across the following vessels were sighted :—S.s. Rotomahana, bound west, at 5.15 a.m. on the 28th; R.M.s.s. Alameda, at 2.45 p.m. on the 29th, and a sailing vessel, at 9.5 p.m. on the same date, both bound west. When the s.s. Richmond was one day out from Papeete, on March 18, she sighted the barque Cowlitz, from Newcastle to Honolulu, which wished to bo reported all well." Work on the wharves was resumed, yesterday after the Easter holidays, and the day proved to be an extra busy one, a3 no less than five, large steamers arrived and began to discharge their cargoes. About 9.30 o'clock Messrs. x>on»ld and Edeuborough's island Bteamer Richmond arrived from Tahiti and Rarotongw with fruit, copra, etc., and about a scor*, of passengers. Of the round trip, Mr. O. Latchmore, the purser, reports : —The Richmond returns to Auckland irom her island cruise a full ship, being loaded to her utmost capacity, and carrying a large deck load of fruit. Calm and pleasant weather had been experienced throughout the trip, though at Tahiti it was intensely hot and trying. Tho Richmond left Auckland on Wednesday, February 2oth, at 10 p.m. and was alongside the wharf at Opu<« next day at noon where she took in about 200 tons of coal and left the same evening at 5 o'clock. Tonga was reached on Tuesday, 3rd March, at 4 p.m., and the steamer discharged her freight and left the next morning at 5 o'clock for Apia Arriving at that port on Friday, the sth March at 2 p.m., she discharged her <*nd left on the 6th at 6 p.m. for Papeete. She reached Papeete on Saturday, 13th ultimo at daylight, and discharged cargo i»ud live stock, and steamed round to Papan. and Puew on Monday, loth ultimo, where she commenced her return loading by taking in over 2000 cases fine oranges, returning to Papeete on the afternoon of the 18th she picked up passengers and mails, and left the same evening for Rarotouga. This island was reached on % Sunday, 21st at 1 p.m., ana tho Richmond finished her loading next day with Eearlshell, copra, limejuicc, and bananas, nally leaving for Auckland tho same night at 10 o'clock, and arriving as above after a pleasant passage. About 9 o'clock last night the weli-kni>»*n Island trader the schooner Jessie Nicco.., Captain T. J. Black well, arrived from Raretonga, with a full carpo of fruit, etu. Th« Jessie Niccol since leaving Auckland -las made a trip to Penrhyn Island, and «mo brought thence a full load of timber to Rarotonga on the owner's account. This timber was part of the salvage from the wrecked ships Derby Park and Plying Venus. Captain Blackwell reports that the Jessie Niccol left Rarotonga on March 9, and had light S.E. winds and calms until the 17th, when she encountered a strong N.W. breeze. After this she had light southerly winds until reaching this port. The schooner Torea and ketch Awarm. were in harbour at Rarotonga, and were about to proceed on trading voyages, in tho Hervey Group, on March 9. H.M.s. Rapid was yesterday floated into the Calliope Dock for cleaning and repairs. She was shored up by Messrs. Niccol, of the North Shore, and operations in cleaning and repainting her began at once. She"is also to be stripped, recaulked and recoppered by Mr. C. Bailey. The Union S.S. Company yesterday eyeing received advice that the Samoan steamer VYainui had arrived at Russell, and would there land her transhipments for Sydney for transferral to the s.s. Manapouri. The s.s. Waiuui will then come on to port, and ahouh arrive this evening. Last evening the Northern S.S. Co.'s 3teamers Clansman, Wellington, and lona, all well patronised with freight and passengers, left port for their respective coastal trips. ■ .' • ■'■ ■■ ■ ■< At Newcastle the schooner Three Cheer 3 is loading coal for this port.
