LAW AND POLICE.
POLICE COURT.—Tuesday. ; :. .* [Before- Dr. Giles, Hf.M.] Assault.Henry Carter was charged with unlawfully assaulting and beating' Bertie Hodgson on March 21sb. Mr. Wood appeared for the complainant, and defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge. Bertie Hodgson deposed that defendant gave him a severe shaking on -the date in question and hurt him greatly. Richard Vercoe was also called for the prosecution. Henry Carter said that he could nob walk along the road without complainant calling out " What about that 5s you owe me. He never laid hands on the defendant on Saturday, March 21st. Dr. Giles said that there did not seem to be anything serious in the case, and he imposed a fine of 5s and costs.
