THE NEWTON SEAT.
NOMINATION OF SIR GEORGE GREY. Yesterday afternoon Mr. John King lodged with Mr. J. A. Beale, the Returning Officer for the electoral district of Newton, the nomination of Sir George Grey as a candidate for the constituency, together with the usual amount of deposit fixed by the statute. The nominators were Mr. S. C. Brown, the present Mayor of the Newton Borough, and its late Mayor, Mr. S. J. Ambury. Monday next is the last day on which the Returning Officer can receive nominations. There is no prospect of any other elector being in the field, and we may therefore conclude that the veteran statesman will be returned without any opposition, in fact have a walk over.
