AUCKLAND ANNUAL REGATTA.
Last evening the committee of the Auckland Regatta Club met at the Waitenmta Hotel, to receive the general entries for the races to take place on Thursday next, Anniversary day. Prom the list appended, it will be seen that though not quite so large as in some former years, there is a. good number of competitors, and this will be augmented by the entries of about a dozen craft which are absent from port. The report of the collecting members, though far from discouraging, showed that a good sum still requires to be got, and a vigorous p'mtt't is to be made to increase the amount of subscriptions during the next couple of days, to which it is hoped die public will make n liberal response. Contrary to expectation, the Waitemata Boating Club, despite the recent restrictions imposed by the Amateur Rowing Association entered a crew for the Champion Whaleboat Race: the other competitors being Waitara 8.C.. Mannkau R.C., and Hauraki R.C. Owing to the Waitemata crew only containing a couple of last year's champions and the slight, amount of training they have done, their chance nPviotory is held not to be nearly so good as formerly, and the Thames men are first in public favour. At the committee mating, held after tho entries were received, several trophies presented were allotted as follows :-Cutter Race, Mr. J. Howden's aneroid ; First-class Yachts, T. and S. Morrin and Co.'s cup; Secondclass Yachts. K. Porter and Co.'s cup; Second-class Fishing Boats. 11. fvohn'a clock ; Third-class Yachts, P. Hayman and Co.'s goblet: Open Boats, W. H. Skeates' goblet: Ladies' Race, Kelsev and Co.'s vases, W. Nome's cabinet. Receipt of prizes from Messrs. W. H. Fen ton and K. Falkner were acknowledged. A sub-committee was appointed to inspect false keels in the Cutter Race, and all junior oarsmen were notified that they must be weighed between 12.30 and two p.m. to-morrow at Messrs. Ross and Ansenne's wharf.
