(by telkorapji.—own correspondent]. Thames, Thursday. Somk time ago a petition woa forwarded to Wellington, requesting that the licensing districts of Thames Borough be amalgamated. A reply has now been received that the request has been granted, and that the amalgamation will probably be gazetted next week. At a meeting of the Borough Council, to-night, the following resolution, moved by Mr. J. McGowan, and seconded by Mr. T. Kadford, wa* carried unanimously, " That this Council notify the gold mining companies working the deeper levels witnin the area of the Borough of Thames that it is prepared to grant, by way of aid to milling, to any each companies, a eumeqmu to the amount of gold duty received upon goKl obtained during the first year of working from a depth of GOO Feet or more from big pump level."
