Yesterday the splendid steel ship Machrihanish, Captain R. Crosby, was cleared at the Customs for London by her charterers the New Zealand Shipping Company, and she has now hauled out irom her loading berth into the stream, whence she will leave for the United Kingdom to-morrow. The Machrihanish takes one of the largest and most valuable general cargoes which has been exported from this port for a considerable time. The chief item is 4239 bales of wool, be- besides this there are large consignments of kauri gum, tallow, copra, leather, and sundries. The three-masted schooner Silver Cloud has begun to discharge her oats from the Bluff at No. -2 jetty. Yesterday Messrs. Donald and Edenborough despatched their smart steamer Little Agnes on her second trip to Noumea, with a lull freighting of provisions, etc. She will on the present trip call at Norfolk Island. New Zealand timber craft recently arrived it Australian ports have met with adverse weather. The barque Natal Queen, Mercury Bay to Melbourne, took 21 days, and the barque Presto, Kaipara to Lauuceston, was 26 days on the trip. The American vessels Wrescler from Whangaroa to Melbourne, and W. F. Weitzman, Kaipara to Melbourne, had similar bad luck, each having her deck cargo shifted and sails damaged in a gale on the voyage across. Last evening the Union S.S. Co. Australia sailed for the East Coast with general cargo and passengers. At an early hour yesterday morning the B.S. Oamapere reached harbour from Dunedin via way porta with • a freighting of produce. Good progress was made with her discharge and she left last night for Westport. The barques Madura and Northern Chief ind schooner Welcome are to load coal at Newcastle for this port. To suit the convenience of passengers the .s. Arawa- did not sail from London until Sunday, the 28th December. The Union S.S. l o.'s Fijian packet Taupo, Captain A. Cameron, arrived here at 4.30 p.m. yesterday, with a cargo of sugar and fruit. Mr. Armstrong, the purser, reports of the round trip : —The Taupo left Auckland at 5.30 p.m ou the sth instant, and reached Russell at 7 a.m. next day, coaled, and took in live stock, and left again at 3.30 p.m. She sighted Mount Washington at 1 a.m. on the 11th, and arrived at Suva at 11 a.m. the Baine day. She discharged cargo on the 12tb, and left for Levuka at 5 a.m. on the 13th, arriving there after a run of 6i hours. At 11.30 p.m. on the 13th she left Levuka, and at 8 a.m. next day reached Navua, took in sugar, and put into Suva at 6.30 p.m. same day. Proceeded to Lancala Bay on the 15th, and completed loading sugar. Filling up with bananas, etc., at Suva on the 16th, she left at 7 p.m., clearing Mount Washington at 8 am. on the 17th, sign ted the Poor Knights at 5 a.m. on the 22nd, and arrived as above. From New Zealand to Fiji had light easterly . winds and fine weather. Whilst in the group dull weather with heavy rain was experienced; and on the return journey strong easterly winds, with head sea, and thick rainy weather, for the first three days, thence to arrival light easterly airs and smooth sea.
