MISS JANET ACHURCHS BENEFIT.
The wide measure of popularity which Miss Janet Achurch and her talented company have gained during their stay in Auckland was amply en evidence last night, when a splendid audience assembled at the Opera House to witness the performance ol "Camille." They were well repaid for their attendance, for the great reputation which the talented actress has earned was most fully sustained, a fact which the spectators recognised by the frequence and heartiness of their approbation. During her stay here Miss Achurch has appeared in characters as numerous as varied, and in all, grave or gay, impassioned or frivolous, sympathetic or worldly, her histrionic success has been marked and unique, while her personal charms of face, figure, voice, and gait have in each case enhanced the favourable impression she has made. An end, however, comes to all good things, and to-night is the last opportunity Auckland will have of being thrilled or awed by the celebrated actress. This last performance has fittingly been set apart as a benefit to Miss Achurch, ana in selecting Charles Reade'a play of "Masks and Faces" for it, a wise choice has been made, for the beneficiare has already proved with what skill she can reproduce to our modern eyes the joys and sorrows of "Peg Woffington," that othes famous and beautiful actress of a century ago. A local committee have been actively engaged in forwarding arrangements for this farewell appearance, and the popularity of Miss Achurch in combination with the merits of the performance should not} fail to draw a monster house.
