PAPAKURA VALLEY.

The annual meeting of the local cricket club was held. Mr. Middleton was <. lected resident, Mr. P. M. Allen captain, and Mr. ). A. Reid secretary and treasurer. The club has joined the Manukau County Association, the captain being delegate. On October 31st the club, with the assistance of a few friends, gave an entertainment in aid of the funds. Part of the time was occupied by a local company of nigger minstrels. This was a most marked success, and was singularly free from that vulgarity so commonly associated with such performances, altogether the entertainment was a great success, and many a wish was expressed that it might soon l)e repeated. I believe the first match in connection with the above association will take place on the Valley ground on Saturday, the Bth iust., Tuakau being the visiting team. The unseasonable weather of the last fortnight has done some damage to crops, and apparently to fruit also, besides greatly hindering the sowing of late props.[A Correspondent.]
