[from our own correspondents.] Hamilton, Tuesday. At the usual monthly meeting of the Tamahere Road Board there were present Messrs. Runcimau (chairman), Barugh, Furze, Rhodes, and Wheeler. Letters were received from Messrs. Paton and Suttor relative to bad roads, and the Chairman reported that lie had attended to the matter upon the receipt of the letters, and the roads were now in good order. Doubt was expressed as to whether the Eureka Avenue Road was under the jurisdiction of the Board. On the production of the district- map it was found that it was, and that the Board were responsible for the maintenance of a mile and a-quarter of it. The Chairman reported that Walworth's culvert, constructed with 24-inch socket pipes, hal been laid in a satisfactory manner, but that the 18-inch pipes taken out had not jet been'stored at Mr. Furze's paddock as required by the Board. It was resolved to make some necessary improvements and do about 0 chains of gravelling on the Central and Tramway roads. Accounts to amount of £18 lis vere passed. Mr. A. Schultze, of the Royal Hotel, Hamilton East, met with a nasty accident when attempting to harness a horse to a buggy on Sunday morning last. In turning the buggy to bring it up to the horse one of the wheel? struck the animal on the flank, and it immediately commenced lashing out, severely damaging the buggy and unfortunately kicki'ig Mr. Schultze very severely oil the left side. Luckily no bones were broken. There was lot such a large attendance as usual at Messrt. Knox and Ridler's auction sales on Saturday last, owing no doubt in a great measure to the stoppage of Messrs. Coates and Aletcilfe's flaxnnll. It is understood, however, that on the return of the scutcher from Price's Foundry at the Thames, where it Las been sent for repairs, the work of scutching will be resumed at the mill. Alexandra, Tuesday. A well-attended meeting was held last week for the purpose of electing a committee and other officers to make all necessary preparations for holding a race meeting here oil Boxing Day, *2Cith of December next. Last year balance-sheet showed there was a balance in hand of some £14. The following committee was then elected Messrs. Finch, Rutherford, Piripi Harper, Paratene, Ahier, Henwood, Nahi, Dixon, and Garmonsway, and Mr. W. Smith wj.s elected chairman. [BV TELEGRAPH. —OWV CORRESPONDENTS.] Cambridge, Tuesday. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Borough Council was hdd this afternoon. Present: Messrs. H. J. Pritstly (Mayor), J. Hally, J. Webber, Bond, and Fawcett. Messrs. C. Robert, J. Robertsui, and R. Kirkwood having made the usual declaration took their seats. The Legal and finance Com mittee's report was presented, which showed the overdraft, after paying al'. accounts, to be £.'!7S. The Committee also submitted a detailed report on various \mportant matters, as follows : —With respect » Crown lands overgrown with furze, it having transpired that the Crown Lands Commissioners have no power to lease „he same, tin committee recommend that the Commissioners be asked to hand the sections fronting Clare and Williams streets over to the Education Commissioners, who will have power to deal with the same. This recommendation was adopted. The committee also recommended that where the Thornton Road had been taken through a part of the Crown lands near Mrs. Hill's, the Commissioners should be asked to definitely declare the same part of the road. It was resolved to apply accordingly. Re gorse : The town was divided into three districts, and allotted to the following councillors to inspect: North-east district, Messrs. Bond (convener), Roberts, and Robertson ; north-west district, Kirkwood (convener), Young, and Bach; southern district, llally (convener), Webber, and Fawcett; the whole to report to next meeting. The Works Committee's report was read. Attention was drawn to the obstruction to the water channel in front of the National Hotel by damaged culvert. It was resolved to write to Mr. Bach, asking him to remove the obstruction before next meeting. The Public Hall Committee's report was presented, which covered a statement of accounts in connection with the late concert, showing the net proceeds to be £35 ls4d. Votes of thanks were accorded to Messrs. Dickenson, Tuck, and Hartley, for the able and successful manner in which they carried out their programme. The report was adopted. The Mayor also proposed a vote ot thanks to the town clerk and Messrs. Bond, Young, and Roberts for their assistance at the concert. Messrs. Crouch and attain and James Meredith tendered for carting gravel. The former being the lowest was accepted, the prices beingCrouch and Wattam, No. 1, Is 6d ; No. 2, *2s - No. 3, l()i,l. James Meredith, No. 1, ls'(xl ; No. '2, '2s ; No. 3, Is. The rent on town endowments (M)a and GO I v being considerably in ttiTeur, it was decided to re-enter and offer the same lor lease. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr. Thomas Wells for his superintendence of the trimming of the avenue trees in Victoria-street. The town clerk was instructed to take the necessary steps for the election of Mayor. The half-yearly balancesheet was laid on the table, which showed overdraft at 30th September to be £500. as against £515 in March, 1890.
