"A. TAIPO" AND THE STRIKE FUND.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Permit me to express sympathy with "A. Taipo" in his trouble re the strike levy ; for lie avers he paid his quota "under protest," and "for peace and quietness." But, alas ! judging from his drivel, his contribution appears to have had the opposite effect. Now he has misgivings about that subscription of 10s which he parted with to support the strikers, and, to ease his troubled conscience, he urges that his donation to the strike fund should be allocated to the Charitable Aid Board, the Refuge, or to Mr. John Abbott for the benefit) of the blind. But, unfortunately, the Typographical Society have no power to act according to "Taipo's" suggestion, for there is not, I apprehend, any member of that name on the roll of the Association. However, if he is not ashamed of the part he has played, he will come to the next meeting and demand in person that his subscription be given back to him, so that he may himself have the privilege of handing it over to the fund for the blind, and receive all the honour and glory to bo derived from such princely generosity. In conclusion, allow me to state that I will not cavil with " Taipo" regarding his "financial and moral" character ; he is no doubt much better off" morally and financially" according to his own estimation) than most of his neighbours. Bub let me remind him that— When man is raised on Fortune's wheel aloft, J.et him not triumph in his bliss elate; For when she smiles with visage fair and soft, Then whirls she round reversing his estate. —I am, &c., Frank Lin.
