PRESENTATION TO DR. COLLINS.

At the meeting of the City Council last night an illuminated address, forwarded from residents at Hokitika, was presented by His Worship the Mayor to Dr. Collins, Medical Superintendent of the Auckland Hospital.

Mr. Upton said ho had been requested by the corporation of Hokitika to present an address, forwarded by them, to 1 Jr. Collins. The request was contained in a letter from (he Town Clerk of Hokitika stating that lie was forwarding by direction of the Mayor of Hokitika a framed illuminated testimonial address which had been prepared and subscribed for by the citizens of Hokitika for presentation to Dr. Collins, who hud lately taken charge of the Auckland Hospital. "The testimonial is intended,'! the letter said, " as a mark of the esteem felt by the inhabitants of this district towards Dr. Collins, and in recognition of the many good services he rendered during his resilience in llokilika.'' Tho writer requested the Mayor of Auckland to make tho presentation publicly to Dr. Collins at a meeting of the City Council. Mr. Upton, addressing Dr. Collins, said he had very great pleasure, in compliance with the request of the corporation of Hokitika, in presenting him with the following address:—"Dr. Floyd Collins, M.R.C.S., L. R.C.P.S. Dear sir, —We the undersigned, prior to your departure from amongst us to fill tho honourable position of Surgeon Superintendent at the Auckland Hospital, desire to express the regret we fool at losing the services of one who, during his residence amongst ns, has given ample testimony of great ability in his profession, both in private practice and as SurgeonSuperintendent of the Wostland Hospital. We bear in mind also tho zeal with which you have always applied yourself to your duties, as well as the kindness that has always been a marked feature in your treatment of the cases in tho Hospital, and which has raised you in the esteem of all who have been inmates of the institution. As a citizen we shall regret your departure, for not only were you at all times a willing contributor to every deserving object, but, a prompt participator in every movement having for its end the welfare of tho town and district. We can only hope that prosperity may attend yourself, Mrs. Collins, and your son in your new homo." This was signed by the Mayor, seven councillors and thirteen other leading citizens of Hokitika.

Mr. Upton had great pleasure in presenting the address, and congratulated Dr. Collins on having received such a flattering testimonial of the worth in which he was hold by his old fellow-citizens in Hokitika. He also congratulated the city of Auckland on having secured a gentleman so highly esteemed in his old sphere of labour. Dr. Collins replied suitably, thanking the Mayor for the kindness he had shown in the matter. He had received many testimonials, bub never such a valuable one as this. He hoped that at the expiration of hi# term of office here Aucklanders would have as good an opinion of him as those in Hokibika. He concluded by thanking very heartily his friends in Westland for their beautiful testimonial, and also the Mayor and councillors of Auckland City for their kindness in presenting it.
