The John Hunt, a schooner outward bound, capsized in the western channel of Port Philip to-day and sank. The crew were rescued. THE TASMANIAN EXHIBITION, Hobart, September 30. The Tasmanian Exhibition has been postponed till October next year, owing to the strike. THE GERMAN SQUADRON. Sydney, September 30. The German flagship Leipzig, and corvettes Sophie anci Alexandrine, leave for Wellington on October 10. THE OUTBREAK OF CHOLERA. Sydney, September 30. The Board of Health has taken precautionary measures, in view of the outbreak of cholera in China and Japan. SENTENCE OF DEATH. Sydney, September 30. Schmidt, convicted of murdering aa old man named Taylor, at Wagga, hag been sentenced to death. THE PEAK. HILL GOLD RUSH. Sydney, September 30. Only one half of the .'nines at Peak Hill, the new rush, have bottomed, and a large number of miners who proceeded there when the rush first set in are returning to the city discouraged. ELECTRIC TRAMWAY. Melbourne, September 30. The accumulated system at the Sandhurst and Eaglehawk electric tramway has been pronounced a failure and the overhead system will be tried. SCULLING RACE. Rockhampton, September 30. At the Regatta to-day, Kemp, Neilson, and Stansbury, took part in the All-comers' Sculling Race. A good start was effected, the champion leading for the first mile by quite two lengths. Iu the last mile Stanbury, who had last throughout, made a tremendous spurt, and, soon overtaking Neilson, was gradually creeping on Kemp, but, unfortunately, he and Neilson fouled when abreast of the lightship, thus enabling Kemp to row in winner by a length and a-half, Neilson, a length away, third. Time, 17m. 15s.
