WAIKATO COUNTY COUNCIL.

[FROM OCR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Hamilton, Monday. The Waikato County Council meeting took place on the 20th September, 1890. Present: Messrs. Primrose (chairman), Barugh, Forrest, Kallendei*, Johnson, Coates, and Seddon. The minutes of the List meeting were read and confirmed. Mr. Wm. Collins, of Taupiri, wrote urging the Council to endeavour to induce the Railway authorities to grant him iccess to his property by the construction of a " level crossing." The chairman stated that there is a road which crosses the line near Mr. Collins' house, but the railway people had run the line through it, making a cutting some 12 or 14 feet deep. A considerable time ago the Council had applied for a' crossing for Mr. Collins, and were informed by the Railway Engineer that he would be willing to construct a hydraulic lift to set a vehicle from an overhead bridge, provided the County -would iy the cost. As it would require the main, road on to the bridge, the proposal was looked on as rather funny, not to mention the expense. The clerk was instructed to again write to the Railway Department, pointing out the hardship suffered by Mr. Collins by being denied access to his property. The engineer was instructed to proceed with the necessary measures to take land for a road deviation at Lock's Hill, Waerenga. The Chairman referred to the discussion at last meeting in reference to the riding's contribution to the maintenance of the Whangamarino-Hamilton and Narrows bridges, when it had been proposed that each riding should pay pro rata on its rateable value. Mr. Primrose said that on considering the question he had come to the conclusion that it might be as well to keep to the arrangement hitherto observed, that is, that the bridges be maintained by Rangiriri, Kirikiriroa, and Cambridge respectively. This course was unanimously agreed to. Mr. Johnson pointed out that the main road from Tole's Hill to the Ohinewai schoolhouse was very much in want of forming. The length is about a mile. The engineer was instructed to invite tenders for the work. The clerk reported that the necessary papers required to obtain a proclamation for the Matahur u road deviation had been forwarded on the loth inst. He was instructed to write to the Minister for Public Works urging a speedy issue of the proclamation, in order that the construction of Hill's bridge may be pioceeded with in suitable weather. £70 was paid, being the second instalment of contribution to the Waikato Hospital Board, and £24, other accounts. The returning officer reported that he bad made the required arrangements for the general election of councillors in November next.
