THE SAN FRANCISCO MAIL SERVICE.

[BY TELEGRAPH.— SPECIAL REPORTER.] Wellington*, Wednesday. The Post has the following this evening : — "Are our Wellington Harbour authorities and merchants going to sleep? Surely the strike has not so completely paralysed them that without an effort they will let slip the chance of bringing the mail steamers to this port. The time is short { the present contract expires in November; the contractors will require full information at once to enable them to make up their minds as to which port they will call at under the new contract. The Aucklanders will spare no exertion to secure a continuance of the present arrangement. They will probably not be over-nice in their representations in laudation of their own port, and disparagement of Wellington in comparison. Our Harbour Board should not lose a moment in taking action on the subject, so as to bring forcibly under the notice of the contractors the advantages which Wellington can offer. The Chamber of Commerce should support and supplement the action of the Harbour Board."
