FIXING LEVELS.
TO THE KDITOK. Sin,— City of Auckland notify that they intend to fix the levels of St. Francis de Sales - street, Ponsonby. This street runs into New-street, and into St. Mar; 'a Road. New-street requires very much to be graded ; from College Road to Dunedrnstroet, the very great hill in the centre would fill up and raise the deep hollows at both ends. It is quite dangerous r w, owing to the steepness from the nortl up to the Convent gate. A serious accident) occurred at St. Mary's Road, where a runaway horse rushed madly from the top of the hill down to the harbour, over the cliff into the sea. New-street is far more dangerous. The City Surveyor recommended New-street to be thus improved. It is for the general public good. Individuals may be a little inconvenienced ; but should nob prevent this great advantage to a largo district that would be benefited.—l am, etc., The Greatest Good of the Greatest Number.
