PAR NELL. The regular meeting of the Parnell Borough Council was held last night. Present : Messrs. H. B. Sealy (Mayor), McConnell, Savage, McCabe, and Thomas. New Members.Messrs. Coleman and Gay, re-elected, and Mr. Thorne(the member elected in place of Mr. Gilmour), made tho statutory declaration, and took their seats. Road Materials. —Messrs. Sutton and Bennett, contractors for the supply of road metal and material, wrote, stating that up to the present £29 4s had been deducted from their monthly accounts. As the amount would be useful to them just now, they asked that the Town Clerk should be instructed to pay at any rate a portion of the amount, as a good portion of the contract was through, and, as they believed, satisfactorily performed. The Mayor said the deduction was strictly in terms of the contract, but the Council could consider whether it was necessary to retain so much. The agreement was to pay 85 per cent, monthly, until there was left in the hands of the Council a sum of £45. It was agreed, on the motion of Mr. Savage, that the terms of the contract be adhered to. Trek Planting.—Dr. Kilgour asked permission to plant some trees in front of his house, in Tararua Terrace, and pointed out that there would be very little traffic there. Referred to the Streets Committee. Finance. The following statement of funds was submitted :—General account, dr., £40 lis 9d ; water supply account, cr., £18 6s 6d ; water loan account, cr., £34 2s lOd ; drainage loan account, cr., £125 '2s 8d; fixed deposit account, sinking fund, £556 18s 9d; drainage loan, £100 14s 7d. Ho also repaired a drain in Eastern Gully, Conquest Place. He had walked over the supposed road between the Domain, Dr. Maunsell's, and the Bank property, and found it was all under cultivation. There were no Sogs to show the line of road at any point, te stated that the whole grievance arose from the trespass of cattle from the Domain into the property which Mr. Marshall has under crop. He wrote to the City Council, complaining of the state of the fence alongside of his crops. He (the overseer) failed to see who was responsible in the matter. Mr. Cotter's letter, written by direction of the City Council re this road, which had been read at the last meeting was again read. The Mayor said that he had gone over the ground, and found that the side next the Domain was securely fenced, but there was no fence on the allotment side. It was of course for the tenant to fence his own allotment. Ib was no duty of the Council to do so. There was no necessity for making the road, as nobody wanted ib. After some discussion Mr. Cotter's letter was received.
