SHIPWRIGHTS' SOCIETY.

The Auckland shipwrights met at the Temperance Hall last night, Mr. Cornish occupying the chair. The question of affiliation with the shipwrights of Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin, was discussed with much warmth, but no decision was arrived at. It was pointed out that in order to affiliate it would be necessary for the Auckland shipwrights to demand 12s per day, whereas at present the average rate was 10*. A good deal of correspondence as read, protesting against the reported action of four shipwrights who had requested the society to recognise them as the only master shipwrights in Auckland. Several of the writers pointed out that such a claim was monstrous and absurd, and amounted to asking the society to boycott all employers but themselves. Before the meeting terminated a resolution was passed by which the members oflthe society bound themselves not to do any work for either the Union or the Northern Steamship Companies.
