THE DISMISSAL OF RAILWAY SERVANTS.
THEIR REINSTATEMENT / DEMANDED.
[BY TKtEGRAFH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Ciihistchukch, Friday. A crowded meeting in tho Theatre Royal to nig"-, under tho auspices of the Trades and Labour Council, passed the following resolutions :—" That this meeting enters its strongest protest against the conduct of the Railway Commissioners in dismissing members of the railway servants' executive for their official actions, such proceeding ben? calculated to increase the present disorganisation of the trade of the colony ; tl at this meeting deems it imperative that the dismissed officials of the railway service gaojld be reinstated, and calls upon the members of Parliament now assembled to exorcise their undoubted right of criticising th« recent action of the Commissioners ; that this meeting considers the Railway Commissioners' action a direct attack upon liberty of speech, and that it calls for an emphatic protest from) all sections of the community ; that in view of tins recent movements in ami out of Parliament antagonistic to the interest of labour this meeting asserts the necessity of immediate and concerted action as regards the ensuing elections, and calls upon all who are qualified to at once register their names on the electoral rolls."
