The prisoner who was shot at yesterday in Darlinghursfc Gaol was the corespondent in the Jamieson divorce case, in which the assailant sought a divorce from his wife. THE BOOK CANVASSING SYSTEM. Sydney, September 5. The Book Purchasers Protection Bilt has passed through Parliament. It protects the public against misrepresentation by book agents. THE 'FRISCO MAIL SERVICE. Sydney, September 6. The Postmaster-General, replying to a communication from New Zealand, positively declines to have anything to do with the 'Frisco service in the future. PROPOSED CONCILIATION BOARDS. Melbourne. September 5. The Premier, Mr. Gillies, in reply to Mr. Playford, Premier of South Australia, thinks it undesirable to take any action for the purpose of discussing the formation of Conciliation Boards during the present contention. When the dispute is settled there will be time to discuss the matter calmly. PURCHASE~OP SILVER. Melbourne, September 5. Tenders for the purchase of 225,0000zs , of silver from the Broken Hill proprietary mine lias been obtained by the Union Bank at 4s 7d per oz.
