THE GREY MOUTH COAL MINERS.
[NY TKI.F.I! Aapii.—PRESS ASSOCIATION'.] GnKYMoiTTit, Monday. Tar. coal miners admit that tho examination of the Grey Valley Coal Company's books bear out Mr. Kennedy's statement, that the price paid for coal on tho gross weight system entails a loss on tho company. After prolonged discussion, it, was resolved to reduce the price for hewing coal (pillar workings only) '2d per ton, on the condition that the railway and Union Shipping Company agree to make a similar reduction. If they agree to this it will make the lid per ton tiie company requires. The miners will make no reduction in tho price for hewing solid coal, which is much harder to get thJln coal in pillars. The minors expected an answer to their proposal to day, and intend to hold another meeting to-morrow. Numerous meetings have been held within the last few days. The townspeople are getting short of coal already, no stocks having been laid in. Many are talking of sending to Westport for a supply.
