About half-past 1 o'clock this morning the Union S.S. Co.'s Wainui, Captain Crawshaw, arrived from Westport with a load of coal, and berthed at the Hobson-strect Wharf. She left the coal port at 1 a.m. on Saturday. Moderate winds with heavy seas prevailed till rounding the North Cape early on Monday, thence strong easterly winds with frequent rain and heavy seas were had till arrival as above. The Wellington arrived at an early hour this morning with passengers and produce from Whangarci. Yesterday Mr. IT. B. Morton, the local agent for the China Navigation Company's vessels, received advice to the effect that the s.s. K"\vei Yang will sail from Foochow for New Zealand ports with new season's teas about August '20th. It is .lot yet decided whether the steamer will call at Auckland. The Union S.S. Co.'s Ohau has been fixed to leave iJunedin on Thursday for Auckland via Oamaru and Tiinaru. She is timed to reach this port on August 7th. Yesterday the brigantine Prosperity after being detained in port several days by adverse winds, left for Mercury Bay, there to load timber for Sydney. The barque Loch Naiv left harbour yesterday morning for Whanzaroa, in tow of the 8.3. Awhina. The Loch Naw will till up with sawn kauri, for either Melbourne or Sydney. From the Customs department we learn that the Government steamer Hinemoa is expected to arrive here on the 31st instant. Last evening the T'.rthcrn S.S. Co.'s Clansman and lona took their departure lor Russell and Ta. -finga respectively, each being fairly patroni 7 with freight and passengers. At an early hour yesterday morning the little ketch Awarua, Captain E. Kopp, reached port from Greymouth after a very rough trip. She left the coal port on July Bth, and experienced light north winds for four days. Strong west-south-west winds were then had till Cape Maria was rounded on the lGth instant. Down the coast very heavy weather and high seas were met, the ■wind being strong from south-east to northeast. The ketch ran into Russell for shelter on the 21st and left again on the 26th, reaching port as above. The Union S.S. Co.'s cargo steamer Kawatiri arrived about 8.30 p.m. yesterday, from Napier, with a freighting of produce, etc. She left Napier at 2 p.m. on the 27th, and had fresh north-east winds and heavy sea till arrival as above. The ketch Minnie, trading between Lyttelton and the Peninsula, was wrecked on Thursday while lying at anchor at O'JKain's Bay.
