FOOTBALL
A VISIT FROM TARANAKI.
News came to hand rather unexpectedly, yesterday, that the Taranaki Kugby Union had decided to send a team of representative footballers to play against Auckland on the th August. This early date leaves the local men but little time to get into training, and doubtless the Rugby Union, at its weekly meeting, will at once countermand the playing of any more Cup matches for the present, and arrange practices with a view to the choosing of a, representative fifteen without delay, as there will be but two .Saturdays available for these before the match. Taranaki lias already made a preliminary selection of twenty players, which are given below and will be seen to be a strong and formidable combination. They have also arranged that a trial match will lie played at llawera on Saturday, the "itith July, and another at Waitara on Saturday, the '2nd August, and the team will remain at Waitara until the steamer leaves on the following Tuesday. They will arrive here on Wednesday, the titli instant, and have a couple of days' rest and preparation before their match on the 9th. The twenty chosen are : —Hugh Good and Oliver, fullbacks; A. Bayly, Hempton, and A. Good, threequarters; Tate, C. and W. Bayly, halfbacks; Sangster, Pearson, Wehi, Barford, Thornton, Lye, Hutchison, Old, W. Good, Duggan, Davis, and Lainbie, forwards.
