Sydney payers to hand by the Waihora show that at the Rosehill Meeting held on the Hrd inst., the Auckland-owned Recruit scored a victory. Urafton was llrst to show out in front and led over the first two of the treble, when Recruit went to the front, .Melrose running next, followed by Fletcher, with the favourite last. Marinion fell at the water-jump, and pursuit being hopeless when he recovered he did not continue, (irafton took the lead again going along the hack, attended by Recruit and .Melrose, tiit-n 1- lengths away came Fletcher and liusliman. .Melrose fell behind at the treble, and Recruit.jumping beautifully took the lead at tie tii>t, and when lie flew the last had a clear lead of a dozen lengths. Irishman had been sent up at the treble, and at the back of the course was running with ration, while and Melrose were a long way in the rear, from there out it was a one-horse race, for Recruit was going very strong at the finish, ami linished 15 lengths in front of Urafton, who was at the whip, while iJusliiuaii, who was ten lengths beuinil, was also in great diiliculties. Time, ."mi fills. At the same meeting the New Zealandbred Repose (by Apremont—-Hummock) won the Orient Handicap, beating a field ot IS in easy stylo.
