Surcfoot made all the running, and won most easily by a length and a-half. Le Nord had to be bustled along to keep his place before half the distance had beon covered, and could never get on terms, although Barrett drove him along as they came down the Bushes Hill. Once safely in the dip, Liddiard gave his horse his head, and he fairly romped up the hill, the easiest possible of winners. Five lengths behind Le Word there was a good race for third honours, and this ended in favour of Blue Green from St. Serf by a neck, Alloway and Golden Gate fourth and fifth. Time, lm. 49?.5. Value of the race, £4100. PURCHASE OF NATATOR. The Waikato district is about to receive a valuable addition to its list of thoroughbred stallions, in the shape of Natator, who lias been purchased by Mr. C. Lake, of Hamilton. Natator is a chestnut horse, got by Tradueer from VVaterwitch, the latter being got by Camden from Mermaid, by King Tom from Waterwitch, by Flying Dutchman. During the time Natator was racing, he proved himself a capital performer, and, amongst other races, he won the Wellington Cup in 1881. As Natator was foaled in IS7~>, he is thus rising twelve years. THE HAWKES' BAY MEETING. The Hawke's Bay Steeplechase Meeting, which takes place to-morrow, is not claiming very much attention, but what little wagering there is on the big event Auckland, Sir Garnet, and Jenny have the call of it.
