PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Cambridge, Monday. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Piako County Council was held on Saturday afternoon, when there were present Messrs. Chepmell (Chairman), J. Mills, J. Horrell, W. L. C. Williams, E. W. Hanmer, and C. M. Brunskill. Gordon Special Settlement Road.— Mr. Mills reported that lie had accepted Mr. Newsomo's tender for work upon this road, which amounted to £67 10s. r lhe report was adopted. Suaftksuury-Waiorongomai ROAD. —Mr. Cox wrote forwarding a cheque for £30 in settlement of the Council's claim against him in connection with the stuff thrown out of the drains along this road. Mr. Cox's offer was accepted, and the engineer instructed to have proper waterways cat through the stuff thrown up on the road. Cambruwe-Morrinsville Road. — was resolved " That the attention of the Tamahero Road Board be again called to the state of the cuttings on this road, and that the Board be urged to have tho same put in proper order." Cambridge-Tauranga Road.Correspondence was read re proposed improvements in this road, in order to render it suitable for driving fat stock. The engineer reported that it would cost £000 to put this side of the range in proper order. The matter was allowed to drop, In connection with this road the engineer recommended that a eontract be let to keep that portion through the bush clear of timber. It was decided to call for tenders, as suggested by Mr. JSandes. He also recommended that fingerposts be erected on the road. The engineer was authorised to have the same erected in the most needed places. Oxkord-Matamata Road.—The engineer reported that the approaches of the two bridges on this road were in a dangerous condition. It was resolved " That the engineer be authorised to arrange with Mr. Rose to keep this road in order till the Hist of December next." Cambridge-Oxford Road.Mr. Sandes reported that the proprietors of the Matamata estate had drained a portion of their property into the county drain at Piariri, thereby endangering the road. It was resolved that the manager be informed that by his action the road is endangered, and that the proprietors will be held liable for damage arising from the said drainage. The manager was also required to at once protect the road from damage. The engineer was authorised to put in some pipes on the LichfieldTc Aroha, and Cambridge-Tauranga road where required. Road Through Section 8 and 9 Waiorongomai.—The Chief-Surveyor wrote stating that no record could be found of the dedication of this read. The clerk was instructed to write to the Board of Governors of the Thames High School, asking them to dedicate the road in question. Cambridge-Tauranga Road.—Mr. Buckland wrote stating that this road through the Hinuera, had been dedicated. Thames-Waikato Road.—Mr. Pavitt submitted a report re the drainage along this road, near Te Aroha West. It was resolved, " That a tracing of the locality be forwarded to the Railway Commissioners, with an explanatory statement-, and that they again be asked to construct a culvert under the railway line." It was resolved, " That persons who have drains into the main road drain near Te Aroha be directed to take the necessary steps to at once prevent water from their properties draining into the said drains, and that they be informed they will in the meantime be held liable for any damage done." It was resolved, "That the Crown Lands Board be notified that several village settlers at Te Aroha West are cutting drains to divert the water from its natural course, and taking it into the drains alongside the main county road, thereby flooding the same, and asking that the Board will take steps to prevent similar action in the 1 future." Mr. Robt. Mackie wrote asking that a road adjoining section 53, block XII., Te Aroha, be made passable for dray traffic. It was resolved that the matter be deferred till receipt of thirds from the perpetual leases. Cambridge-Tauranga Road Deviation. —Mrs. Bates wrote objecting to the line of road as laid off through her property at Tuaraparaharaha. It was resolved that £8 be offered Mrs. Bates as compensation in full, and the laud taken to be exchanged for the road closed. Charitable Aid. —A communication was received from the Waikato Charitable Aid Hoard, notifying the Council that their contribution for the year ended 31st March, 1891, was £333. It was resolved to pay same as soon as funds were available. Slaughter-house License. A renewal of Mr. George Walker's slaughter-house license was granted. Bates.—Notice was given that the Council will, at its next meeting, on 19th July, make a general rate of one halfpenny in the £ over all ridings ; also a separate rate of Jd over all property in the Aroha Riding, and a separate rate of Ad for the Patetere Riding. Cambridge-Oxford Road.—The expenditure for necessary repairs on this road in the Patetere riding was left to the discretion of the engineer. Te ARonA-LiciiFiELD Road.—lt was resolved to call for tenders for approaches to the Wauui Bridge on this road, and also for the formation of that portion of the road through the school reserve, Wainui. Stoats, Etc.—lt was resolved, " That this Council protest atfaiust the introduction of

stoats and weasels into this colony, and would respectfully ask the Government to recommend His Excellency to rescind the Order-in-Council of the 13th May last, declaring the said animals prohibited." Te Aroho-Lichfield Road.— engineer was authorised to have some 18-inch pipes placed across this road near Hanks'. Waiorongomai, Thames-Waikato Road. It was resolved, " That the drain alongside this road, near Waihoa, to the outfall be cleaned out."
