Few Aucklanders will have forgotten the sad death of Mr. Homy Talbot, third oliicor of the ship Persian Empire, who perished when attempting to rescue a couple of girls from drowning in the harbour last month. The question of erecting a suitable monument to his memory in the Devonporfc Cemetery, whore his remains were interred, was taken up some little time ago by several gentlemen, and a subscription organised for that object. Captain IS earing, who has taken a prominent part in the matter, informs us that an order has been given for a simple yet fitting headstone, which will, with a suitable legend inscribed upon it, be erected as soon as finished. ft is intended to photograph the grave and tombstone ami forward copies to Captain Hay and deceased's relatives in England,
