The first private exhibition of the Auck land Photographic Club was.opened on May '28 in the club room. There was a good attendance of members and their friends, and a good show of pictures, some of them of exceptional merit. The principal exhibitors were Mr. Morton, Mr, Walroad, Mr. Humphries, Mr. Hunter, Mr. Will, and Mr. Francis. The young club is heartily to be congratulated on its success in the somewhat ambitious undertaking of an exhibition within six months of its formation, and the public exhibition at the cud of the year will be anticipated with much interest. The Church of England Grammar School distinguished itself at the recent Bishop's prizes examination. Out of 2b" candidates who passed nine belong to this school, and of these nine four gained first-class prizes — viz. , Gray, Ist place ; George Hall, third ; James Hall, sth; and Wynyard, ninth ; whilst Stitchbury, Dovereux, Snelling, and Frazer, were successful in the second-class.
