[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Thursday. AMENDED MINING REGULATIONS. It is hoped that the amended regulations, concerning which I have already advised you, will be ready in time to be published in next week's New Zealand Gazette. I have already intimated something of their purport so far as regards prospecting in the Puhipuhi Forest. RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S DISTRICT. The district of Whangarei is abolished, and that of Kaipara altered by " Orderin - Council." The boundries of the altered district appear in to-night's Gazette. The northern boundary runs east and west through Toetoehatiko and Waipoua survey district to the sea, thence to the Wairau river and Whakaparo river ; the north-east boundary of the parish of Hikurangi to the Waihorahia stream, thence to Rocky Bay; east, by the sea ; south-east, generally by the parish of Waiwera from the sea to the Waitoki stream, by that stream to certain sections of Kaukapakapa. DRAWING IN SCHOOLS. Drawing is gazetted as a pass subject in the various State schools. PATENTS.. A. Norman Whitney, of Havard Square, London, and Cleveland, Auckland, has taken out a patent for an invention for improvements in the manufacture of metallic cartridges. AUCKLAND METROPOLITAN CLUB. This olub is cancelled, not having complied with the 229 th section of the Licensing Act. POSTMASTERS. W. N. Ewing is appointed postmaster for Batley, and P. Purcell for Western Springs.
