PRESENTATIONS.

Ox December 30 presentations were made at the District Hospital to Drs. Bell and Forbes, of the Hospital medical staff, who retired from the service next day. The presentations were made by the general and nursing staff of the institution. Dr. Bell was presented with a set of teeth instruments, suitably inscribed, and Dr. Forbes with a silver cigarette case, as tokens of goodwill on their severing their connection with the Hospital.

On the sth January the choir of St. Patrick's Cathedral assembled at St. Patrick's Hall, after eleven o'clock mass, and presented the conductor and musical director, the Rev. Dr. Egan, with a. handsome album and stand. The presentation was made by Mr. Munro, and was suitably acknowledged by Dr. Egan.

At the annual entertainment given by the Children of Mary, held on January 3, at St. Mary's Convent buildings, Ponsonby, the members of that society presented the spiritual director, the Rev. Father Egan, with a very handsome music stand, constructed of New Zealand woods. The presentation was made by Miss Smith, president, who read an address accompanying the gift. Father Egan suitably replied. A presentation has recently been made to the Rev. H. J. Lewis, pastor of the Newton Congregational Church, by the members of the congregation. It consisted of a copy of the "Illustrated Christian Portrait Gallery," which was purchased from Mr. Wildman, of the Victoria Arcade. The presentation was mado by Mr. Ellyett, at a church meeting, with a few appropriate remarks. A very pleasing ceremony took place on January 12, at St. Benedict's, Newton, when tho children of Mary presented their late director, Rev. Father O'Sullivan, 0.5.8., with a purse of sovereigns and an address prior to his departure. The rev. father replied in feeling terms, and expressed the hope of soon being in the midst of the children again. The address, which was a work of art, was executed, we understand, by Mr. Hcrapath, of this city. Mr. P. K. AlcCoughan, formerly M.H.R. for Riverton, has presented £150 to the building fund of St. Joseph's Cathedral (Roman Catholic).

A well-finished, walkingstick has been made to tho order of Mr. M. Sheahan, and is to be presented by him to Mr. William O'Brien, M.P., of the Irish Nationalist party. The stick is of New Zealand woods, except for two small pieces from the South Sea Islands, and it forms a very neat present, the woods being excellently inlaid. On a silver plate is engraved the name " W. O'Brien."

At a meeting in the Town Hall, Dunodin, on the 20th January, presided over by the Mayor, a committee was appointed to make arrangements for the canvassing of the city and suburbs, and it was also decided to communicate with the chairmen of County Councils, asking their co-operation in raising funds for a testimonial to Inspector Weldon. A donation of ten guineas was promised by His Worship the Mayor. Two donations of £5 were received, and several other sums promised. Mr. P. K. McCaughan, of Dunedin, has given £50. The members of the Underwriters Association on Jan. 20 presented Mr. James Buttle, late manager of tha New Zealand Insurance Company, with a handsome gold lever hunting watch, bearing a suitable inscription, as a mark of their esteem and respect on the occasion of his departure for Melbourne to fill the important post of manager of the company in that city. The staff of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Insurance Company also presented Mr. Buttle with a gold albert and other souvenirs. The presentation was made by Mr. Warwick Weston. An address was also made, expressing regret at Mr. Buttle's departure from Auckland, and congratulating him on his appointment to Melbourne, and conveying the best wishes of the staff for the health and happiness of himself and family. Mr. Buttle suitably responded on both occasions. He left for Sydney per Te Anau on Jan. 21, with the best wishe.'' of all who know him.

On Jan. 20 a large number of the parishioners of St. Benedicts and friends of Father O'Sullivan assembled in the presbytery to wish him good-bye. and the occasion was taken advantage of to present him with an address and a purse of sovereigns. leather O'Sullivan very feelingly replied in grateful terms of acknowledgment.
