A GOLDEN WEDDING.
OCR Mahurantji correspondent writes : —On Tuesday, the "21st instant, took place one of those rare gatherings which only occur once in a lifetime, ami that to those only who are exceptionally favoured, I r.llude to the celebration of the golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Grimmer, of the Dome Volley, when all the grown-up members of tho family, within a reasonable distance, had the gratification of assembling in the original home. The customary eon com i touts and jvocesaories usual on such' festive occasions had their due honours, amongst which figured a magnificent bridal cake, which was duly cut and liberally distributed to the various friends. Mr. A. runnier, the eldest son, as representative of the family, made a neat and spacefill speech on the happy event they had met to celebrate. Mr. and Mrs. Grimmer have been settled in the Dome Valley for over thirfcv-two years. Indeed, they were amongst tlie first who. settled in this part of Maharangi, and where their first home wtvs, in tho midst of dense bush, it is now cleared away back for miles beyond. They also have the action of having their sons and some of their daughters settled on farms ail round, who are also prospering and multiplying, there being at present eight children and forty-two grandchildren. Mr. Grimmer'a first step in emigration was to .Sydney, thence he w;w induced to remove to Wellington, but an earthquake shook his chimney down there, and he removed at once to Auckland, and finally, settled where he is now located. For years Mr. Grimmer took a lively interest in local politics, and was ofteu a member of the Road Board, when he took his share of the honours, but more often of the usual ■grumblings that fall to the lot of members of these bodies. For .some years he has rt*tired from the mrrre active sphere, but still gives his attention to the local Band of Hope, of which he was the original promoter, and of which he is still a zealous and consistent member.
