Quite the affair of the season will, I think, be the popular verdict on the social ana dance given by the Okete flax-dressers in the WaitetaiMi School-room, on Friday, the Kith Instant. The room, which was comfortably filled with the assembled guests, was very cicely and appropriately decorated for the occasion, and, as might he anticipated from a knowledge of our host's daily occupation, ph&rmium tencix, both in its dressed and undressed state, played a primary part among the decorations. One unusually rail bunch of it was placed near the door. Rosettes were also made of it, and worn as badges by the Okete flax-dressers. The programme consisted of dances, with songs and recitations interspersed. The latter, with the names of those who rendered them appended, are as follow Song, " Well, It's Only What I've Been fold," Mr. E. Orton Wallis; pianoforte solo, Mrs. Mathias: screaming farce, -Mr. Walters and Mr. H. Burton. This item came as a rare treat to tin audience completely unprepared for their appearance 011 Raglan boards of an artiste of Mr. Walter's calibre. The same gentleman then contributed a nigger song. Comic song, Mr. C. Garlick; recitation, Mr. E. Barton: song, "Polly, the Cows are iu the Corn." Mr. C. Moon; comic song, Mr. Walters ; song, Mr. J. Ormeston; stump speech, Master W. Wallis (scored a success). Mr. C. Moon then recited an amusing parody 011 " The Raven." At 12 o'clock the tables were tastefully spread with the most varied and tempting of viands, which for quality and quantity combined would have been difficult to beat. It is needless to say that this part of the entertainment was duly appreciated. Dancing, was kept up with great zest until daylight under the able management of Mr. C. Moon, who as usual made an efficient M.C- And now, I suppose, the ladies will expect a postscript to this description naming the belle, but, nevertheless, I would rather not.—[Raglan Correspondent, August 19.] City Dental Rooms, Queen-street, opposite Wyudham-street.
