Clansman took in a quantity of varied merchandise for her Northern ports of Russell, Whangaroa, and Mangonui, and sailed in the evening with a fair number of passengers on board. At the No. 2 jetty the American barque Alice was putting out her kerosene yesterday, the cases turning out clean and sound. After a lengthy detention bar-bound at Qnotiki, the Northern S.S. Co.'s steamers Chelmsford and Douglas got out of the harbour yesterday morning, and the former is expected this forenoon. It is probable that the s.s. Oreti will, after receiving an overhaul, be despatched to Fiji to ply in the inter-island trade which was formerly carried on by the s.s. Southern Cross, now in the East Coast trade. The s.s. Te Anau from the South left Gisborne at 9.."J0 a.m. yesterday, and is consequently due here about 10.-10 this forenoon. At the Queen-street Wharf the cargo of the Largo Bay is being rapidly got out, and considering the vessels misadventures, is burning out in fair condition. The well-known trader Medora is in port From Ohora and Awanui, with her usual freight of gum and produce. Having completed her loading of drain tiles, etc., at Hobsonville, the schooner Dunidin sailed yesterday for Napier. Her present trip will be her last one, as she is to srade to the Kermadec Group for her new jwners in future. The s.s. lona took her departure yesterday ivem'ng for Taurnngaand Mercury Bay, with ;rvrgo and passengers. About 8 o'clock yesterday morning the Jnion S.S. Co.'s Australia arrived from her isual fortnightly trip to East Coast ports tnd Wellington. In addition to a large xeight and a number of passengers from her regular ports of call, the steamer brought the Auckland consignments and passengers ?x the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Co.'s direct liner Arawa at Wellington. Mr. Kendall, the purser, reports of the trip : The Australia left Wellington on the .'list July, at 7 p.m., and arrived at Napier at 7 p.m. on the Ist August. She left next day at -3 p.m., and arrived at Gisborne on the ,'ird, at G a.m. Sailing again three hours later, she called at Tokornaru, Waipiro, Awanui, and Oreti Point, and arrived as above, having experienced fine weather throughout the passage. The s.s.jj Wellington arrived last evening from Whangarei, with a general freight and a large number of passengers. Intelligence was received yesterday from Hokianga to the effect that the barque Devonport, Captain Greenwood, which left hereon the 11th ult., has arrived at Hokianga, where she is to load baulk timber for Sydney, after a very stormy and protracted voyage. In a very heavy gale off the. North Cape a huge wave washed one of the seamen overboard, and he was drowned. No further particulars are to hand. The Devonport is well known in this port, and is owned by her master and others.
