Fire Brigade.—The secretary of the Fire Brigade wrote, asking whether it would be possible to get a chart of the fireplugs in the Borough, as it would be a great convenience to the Brigade. A rough chart would answer the purpose, aa they did not want to put the Council to great expense. It was agreed that the plan bo prepared as required. Strkbt Line.—Messrs. R. Keals and Sons, architects, asked to have the street iiue defined, as the Windsor Castle Hotel was aboafc to be re-builfe, and whether the iron pegs driven by Mr. Gardner, the foreman of fche Council would be sufficient guide. They were desirous to have it in writing. Mr. Gay said the Council would incur a great responsibility if they complied with the request, and the Mayor expressed a similar opinion. Mr. Gilmour thought the request was a reasonable one. They ought to have some security. Mr. McCabe said the road was 18 inches or 2 feet too narrow now, and it would be a mistake for the Council to give a written guarantee. Mr. Savage moved, " Thafe the applicants be informed that they would have to make the survey for themselves," but this was withdrawn in favour of one moved by Mr. McCabe, "That the applicants be informed that the Council approve of the line given by the foreman, and that that officer .be instructed not to give boundary lines in future except by instructions of the Council."

Drainage.—Mr. R. Efamlin asked permission to put in four-inch drain-pipes into the rhanneJ ab' Clavbrook Road. The matter was referred to the Streets Committee after Mr. Gardner, the foreman of works, had explained what was required. Rates.—Mrs. H. Richards again wrote, asking to be released from paying arrears of rates, or to have the amount considerably reduced, as she was not in a position to pay. In reply to councillors, the Town Clerk said the applicant had six houses, and there was a judgment against her. Mr. Gilmour thought she could not complain so long as the Council took no action to enforce the judgment against her. The letter was received.

They recommended filling in the hole in Mr. Rawlings' allotment with clay soil. Re Mr: Burns' complaint as to Falcon-street, they recommended thiit the footpath be raised, Mr. Burns to indemnify the Council from any claim for compensation for damage to his property. They considered tho wooden kerbing in Falcon-street dangerous, arid recommended that it be altered or repaired. The first clause was adopted without discussion. Dr. Maunsell's application in regard to erecting posts on the footpath in Gibraltar Crescent, he could not recommend, and it was decided to refuse the application and to adhere to the Streets Committee's recommendation. Mr. Lord had removed a portion of a retaining wall in Gladstone Road. He was tilling up the space and wrote that if any damage waa done to the footpath, he would make it \ good. There was ample earth to sustain the footpath and back it up, and be thought it a pity to bury the stones, as they could be utilised in other ways. Mr. Lord appeared in support of his application, and it was granted, subject to the guarantee. Inspector's Rkpokt.—The Inspector of Nuisances reported that he had found all the slaughterhouses in a cleanly condition. He asked the Council to advise him in respect of a nuisance in Avenue Road.
