ENTERTAINMENTS.

There was a very large audience, especially in the lower parts ofjfche house, at the City Hallon Saturday evening, when another of the variety entertainments known as the People's Popular Concerts was held. In the first part, comprising songs, etc., Madame Stella was the interlocutress and Messrs. Mackanini and Ward the corner men. The remainder of the programme contained miscellaneous items, which were generally appreciated. The free concert at Wesley Hall on Saturday evening was listened to by a large audience, many being unable to gain admittance. Mr. James Buttle presided. The following programme was presented,; and evidently much enjoyed. The Newton •* Brass Band, under the able leadership of Mr. West, contributed three items: An overture; Scotch selection, "Lord of the Isles," and an "Oriental March," descriptive of the march of a caravan through the desert; pianoforte selection, "Death of Nelson," Miss Gribbin; song, "The British Lion," Mr. W. Ambury; violin selection of Scotch Airs,"Miss Bucltland; song, " When the Stormy Winds do Blow," Mr. R. Abel; clarionette solo, Mr. West; song, "Apart," Mrs. Webbe; violoncello solo, Mr. Davis, with pianoforte accompaniment by Mr. Shorland; song, "In the Gloaming," Mrs. Bate; cornet solo, Mr. Gribbin, with pianoforte accompaniment by Miss Gribbin. Next Saturday the Mount Albert Mutual Improvement Society provide the whole of the programme, under the presidency of. Mr. J. T. Garlick. On Saturday evening last the entertainments at the Sailors' Rest entered upon their fifth year. An excellent programme was provided for the occasion. The following comprised the items : — Quartette, " Bells of Even," Mrs. Eady, Miss Walker, Messrs. Tracy and Eady ; song, " Ruby," Mr. Peace; recitation, "The Lifeboat," Mr. Oswald flute solo, " Rye Bloom," Mr. Maunsell; song, " The Bridge," Miss Davies; song, Golden Love," Miss Walker; quartette, "When Evening's Twilight Gathers Round," Mrs. Eady, Miss Walker, Messrs. Tracy and Eady; song, "Daddy," Mrs. Eady; song, "She Wore a Wreath of Roses," Mr. Tracy; recitation, " Burdock's Goat," Mr. Oswald; song, " Good Company," Mr. Peace; flute solo, "Gavotte," Mr. Maunsell; song, " Laddie," Miss Davies ; piano solo, " The Mocking Bird," Miss McMaster. An excellent programme was given at the Temperance Hall, on Saturday night, by the Pitt and Vincent-street choir. Mr. Tremain presided. The following was the programme : glees, " Hail, Smiling Morn," " Oberon," " The Bells," by the choir; quartette, "Call John," Misses Wheeler, Tudehope, Messrs. Tudehope and Dryland; duet, "Woman's Rights," Miss Tudehope and Mr. Boroakill; songs were rendered, by , Misses Tudehope and Baino; recitations byMisses Hill Tattersall, and Wheeler ; reading by Miss Baine.
