CITY EAST LICENSING COMMITTEE MEETING.
TO THE EPITOR. Sißj—l noticed a paragraph in your paper re above meeting which I canuob allow to pass unnoticed, as the contents are utterly untrue, and likely to be misleading. You mention that at a meeting of above re City Club license " that it seems through the dissensions in the committee over the whole business the minority has been converted into a majority, Mr. Craig having come round to the belief that the stand taken by Messrs. Payne and King at tha outset was the right one." I beg to contradict this statement, which is entirely untrue, as I have nob come round to the belief a etc., was the right one, as I am unaware they took any stand at all. At the meeting a paper was placed before the meeting for signature of the committee, but as this paper when, signed was to be handed to other people, I protested, and pointed out that I did nob think the committee were doing their duty if they signed the paper to be given to aa outsider. I carried my point, hence probably the remark above that I had gone over to the views held by Messrs. King and Payne, whereas they coincided with my proposal. I suggested, to save remarks, that certain committee members were not consulted, that it would be better to have the minutes signed by all members, so as to have no dispute in future. I think committee meetings are supposed to be private, but somehow thev are reported immediately after the meetings are held, which I think shows a leak somewhere, which would not matter if correcb facts were published.—l arc, &c, J. J. Ceaig.
