London, July 18. The weekly returns of the Bank of England published to-day show the total reserve in notes and bullion to be £13,604,000, being an increase of £100,000 as compared with last week. The proportion of the reserve to liabilities is 38 per cent. Consols are at 98$; the market is active. Australian wheat ex store 39s Gd with the market firmer ; New Zealand long berried ex store 38s Gd. Sugar, German Beet, 22s 6d; the market is weakening. No. 1 best Scotch pig iron f.o.b. in the Clyde is firm at 44s i)d.
