THE GOLDFIELDS.

[KKOM OUR OWN COJUIKSTOXDEXTS.] Thames, Monday. Paroqukt (Waiomo). —The new wire rope for the tramway has arrived on the mine, and men are now engaged in placing it into position, which should be accomplished in a few days. There is a lartro tonnage of ore ready at the mine for forwarding to the battery, so that as soon as the tramway is in working order again it is probable the battery will start at once. i' km (Waiomo). —The winze below No. 1 level is still being continued downwards, with the reef showing a thickness of about four feet, and showing gold at every breaking down. A rise has been started on the same reef above the back of No. 2 level for the purpose of meeting the winze. Here the reef is a little larger, anil also shows gold, whilst the country is of a very favourable character. About GO tons have been treated at the Paroquet battery from the big reef at No. 2 level during the past week, and from the show of amalgam on the plates there should be a payable return. Crushing is> still being continued from this source. [BY TKLKCiKATH. —OWN CORRKSPON'DKNT.] Tuames, Monday. Saxon*.—No. 1 reef in the eastern drive, No. 5 level, is contracting in size as driven upon, and is now about 2£ feet in width. Colours of gold were seen when the quart/. was last broken. The manager, to-day, accepted the tender of Mr. T. Coombs, at £30, for enlarging the battery buildings to receive the additional 10 head of stampers about to be erected by Messrs. Price. Littlk Nklt, (Karaka Creek).—The Auckland shareholders in this claim will be pleased to learn that about 41b of picked stone were secured on Saturday from the leader being driven upon at the low level, and a little stone was also got today. The leader is about 18 inches thick, and carries excellent mineral. The block now being opened up will have between 70 and SO feet of backs.

OWHAROA. [BY TBLEORAPH.— CORRESPONDENT.] Pakeoa, Monday. S&IILE of Foktunk.—Farmer and party, tributers, have cleaned up for 1650z. gold.

MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. Trenton.—The western drive has been extended a. distance of 18 feet this week. This makes the total distance from the Cambria crosscut 54 feet. The country has not been ho favourable for driving since Tuesday hist, owing to about 15 feet of blue rock having been passed through, but there is a change for the better coining in the face of the drive to-day. The contractors for driving the bottom level have made better progress this week, having driven seven feet since Saturday last. This makes the face of the drive 40 feet in from the shaft. The country is a little easier for working, but otherwise there i.s little change in the appearance of it. The contractors for sinking the well are making slow progress ; three feet six inches have only been sunk since they commenced. Nkw l< eaenouoht—The reef in the bottom of the winze continues about three feet in width. The quartz broken during the week does not look so well as mentioned in my last report, but continues of a kindly description and favourable for gold. The country has become rather broken within the last few days. Good progress continues to be made in sinking. The winze is down a depth of 33 feet.
