MASONIC.

The quarterly meeting of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Scotland was hold on the 30th April in the Freemasons' Hall, Brother Sir Frederick Whilaker, P.G.M., presiding. The principal business was the installation of Grand Lodge officers for the ensuing year, and the following brethren were installed :—Brother Ellison, S.W.; Brother Page, , W.; Brother Briggs, Treasurer Brother Moylan, S.D.; Brother Hugo (W.iVJ., of Cisborne, who was present), J.D.; Brother Strathern, 5.8.; Brother Thomas, 1.G.; Brother McQuarrie, Marshal ; Brother Dr. Walker, Organist. The other business was of a routine character, and the Grand Lodge was closed at halfpast nine p.m. The regular monthly meeting of Lodge Am, 348 1.C., was held on the 6th May at the Freemasons' Hall. Brother D. F. Evans, W. , presided. There was a fair representation of the lodge and a considerable number of visitors. After the ordinary lodge business had been disposed of, the great question of the formation of a Grand Lodge was introduced by the secretary. Brother Powley, P.M. Brother P.M. McCullough proposed the advisability of forming a United Grand Lodge for New Zealand, and the motion was seconded by Brother Evans, W.M. An amendment was proposed by Brother Butler, and seconded by Brother Savage, to the effect that the time had not yet arrived for the formation of a Grand Lodge in New Zealand, and this was spoken to effectively by Brothers P.M.s Moat, Buchanan, and Hanna. A vote on the amendment was taken, the result being 9 for and 10 against ; and on the vote for the motion being put the voting was reversed —there being 10 for the motion and 9 The motion in favour of the formation of the Grand Lodge for New Zealand was, therefore, carried in the oldest Masonic Lodge in the colony._ The next business was the election of officers for the ensuing year, and the following brethren were unanimously elected : —W.M., Brother S. D. Hanna; S.W., Brother Geo. Robson ; J.W., Brother W. M. Chapman; Chap., Brother Rev. Dr. Kidd, P.M. ; Trea., Brother A. S. Russell, P.M. ; See., Brother G. H. Powley, P.M. ; S.D., Brother James Boskill ; J.D., Brother Ernest Butler ; D.C., Brother J. R. Hanna, P.M.; Org., Brother A. Hanna; 1.G., Brother H. B. Dexter; S.S., Brother W. H. Mahony ; J.S., Brother D. Robertson; Tyler, Brother Edward Tonge. It was agreed that the installation should take place on an evening as nearly as possible to St. John's Day, the 24th of June, and that the installation should be celebrated on a subsequent date to be fixed, by an "at home."
