FOOTBALL.
Gordon v. Auckland.—This match was played in the Domain Cricket Ground on Saturday, and after an exciting contest the former were victorious, the score at call of time being Gordon 7 points, Auckland nil. For the winners, tries were obtained by Clayton and Binney, from the former of which Jervis kicked a fine goal, and R. Lusk kicked another goal from a mark obtained by Meldrum. The game was throughout very fast, though the rain which fell at intervals during the afternoon rendered the ball very slippery. The knowledge of the new rules shown by the players was only moderate, and they will require to be carefully read and studied before the cup contests commence. I Both sides indulged in a good deal of un- I necessary talking and wrangling. The Gordon backs played well together, their backs , being specially good. Auckland was, how- j ever, somewhat handicapped by the absence of several of its best players. In the junior matches, Orient beat Manukau by 7 points to nil; while Alberts had an easy victory over Clarence, winning by 14 points. [BY TELEGRAPH.
