London, May 17. The total amount of reserve m the Bank of England is £14,478,000, being an increase upon the previous week of £978,000. The proportion of reserve to liabilities is 37]. Consols are 99 J-, firm. Australian wheat, ex warehouse, is 395. Business is restricted. New Zealand long berried wheat, ex store, is 38s (id. Business is also restricted. The copper market is steady, the present quotations being £39. German beet sugar is 21s 3d; Java, 235, the latter nominal. No. 1 best Scotch pig iron, f.0.b., in the Clyde is 43s lOd. The tone of the tallow market is steady. Best mutton is 26s 6d, and best beef 265. There is little inquiry. Tanned hides fetch from 3|d to 3gd per lb. London, May 18. New Zealand hemp is quoted at £36 5s to £36 10s. Best hides have declined Jd per lb.
