TRAGIC SUICIDE BY A WOMAN.
[BY TKLKGRAPH. — PUKSS ASSOCIATION.] Christchukch, Saturday. Mrs. Polhill, wife of F. Polhill, of Lab win Station, committed suicide this morning by shooting herself with a fowling piece. About two /ears ago the lady lost her grown-up daughter" suddenly, and she had never fully recovered the shock, being subject to fits of melancholy. Lately she had been more depressed than usual, and at a quarter to eight this morning she loaded a breechloader, and placing it on a table with the muzzloto her breast, leaned over and pulled the trigger. The shot passed right through her body. She lived for four hours, suffering dreadful agony, Dr. Clayton, who was summoned, being unable to do anything to save her.
