THE GERMAN MINERS.

. SPREAD OF THE STRIKE.

PRINCE BISMARCK ANXIOUS. Press Association.—Electric Telegraph.— Berlin, May 15. The strike in Westphalia is spreading to Wassenberg and Abc-la-Chapelle, in the Rhine province.

Prince Bismarck is said to be much concerned at the spread of the strikes in Westphalia, which evidently was caused by wide-spread organisations. As an outcome of the strikes large quantities of coal, coke, and iron have been purchased in England for use in Germany. Received May 18, 1,25 a.m.

Berlin, Mry 17. The Emperor William has advised a deputation from the colliery proprietors who waited upon him, to iteep a close touch of the workmen, and use every effort to provide for their welfare. It is probable that a compromise will be arranged on the basis of eight hours' labour, with increased wages.
