EXPLOSION ON BOARD A STEAMER.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Christohorch, Friday. Ok Wednesday last an explosion occurred on board bhe Wareatea, which arrived at Lyttelton to-day with Greymouth coal. When off Cape Farewell, Samuel Taylor, seaman, went down the hatch and struck a match. An explosion of gas followed. He was blown over the combings of the hatch 011 to the deck, and was fearfully burned on the face. The force of the explosion was so great that two hatches were blown overboard. Taylor is progressing favourably.
