THE MELBOURNE EXHIBITION.

COST OF THE NEW ZEALAND COURT. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Friday. At a meeting of the Now Zealand Commissioners at the Melbourne Exhibition, Sir J. Hector presided. Tho total cost of the New Zealand court has been about £300 in excess of the total vote, £5000, and the estimated expenditure, approved by the Commission in March last, has been closely adhered to, notwithstanding that a space of 23,000 feet was occupied instead of only 10,0«J, as was at that time contemplated. The chief items in the extra exponse incurred were freight, cartage, and insurance, and this was due to the bulk of the exhibits sent from the colony being very largely in excess of what the Commission had been led to expect. The schedule of awards showed that New Zealand exhibitors special, 127 first, 106 second, 54 third, II fourth, and 30 honourable mentions, or a total of 334 prizes. The Executive Commissioner submitted a draft report of the Commission to His Excellency the Governor, which is in an advanced state of preparation. He also reported that by arrangement with the Government, 189 cases of exhibits had been dispatched from Melbourne on 28th February to the Paris Exhibition, 65 to the Dunedin Exhibition, and 200 to various exhibitions, and that the remainder will all be shipped by the steamer leaving Melbourne on the 2nd prox.
