POOR SKELTON'S CASE.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—l have been delighted to observe the generous efforts of Dr.' Wilkins to raise sufficient funds to get the unfortunate man-o -war's man a cork leg ; and no less delighted to witness the no less generous response of the public, as recorded in the Hi;raj,i>. But lam told that more funds are needed ; and I hope for the honour of Auckland that the gallant tar will not be forgotten or forsaken, but will get all necessary aid. Acting on a noble and unselfish impulse to save a portion of our city from the devouring flames, lie placed himself beyond all claims on the service ; but am sure he will not appeal to us in vain in his dire misfortune. He was a sober, upright, brave tar, and I hope that poor Jack will have his heart warmed by seeing' Dr. Wilkins' laudable efforts crowned with success.—lam, etc., A Magistrate.
