VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.
Rifle Match.—A match was fired at the Mount Eden range yesterday afternoon between tho band of H.M.s. Orlando and Hunter's Naval Volunteer Band. The conditions were : seven men a-side, ten shots at 200, 300, and 509 yards, the competitors to change rifles after firing five rounds. The teams met at the wharf and proceeded to the range by tram-car. On arrival there it was found that the 300 yards' range would have to be abandoned, as a match between the Squadron and a beam of civilians was proceeding at that distance. Some little soreness was manifested by the volunteers at being obliged t-o relinquish the range to civilians. The shooting of the bandsmen was very indifferent, Sergeant Reid, of Hunter's Band, making top score, with 60 goints, and Bandsman McDonald, of the 'rlando, being second, with 58. The totals were :Orlando, 240 points ; Navals, 2-30 points, the former thus winning by 10. In the evening both teams met at the Wait©mata Hotel, where a pleasant reunion was held, the proceedings taking the lor n of a smoke concert. Squadron v. Civilians.—A match botwoen a t eam representing the Squadron in port arid one of civilian marksmen was also fired yesterday. Some good shooting wa-s made, and the contest became very exciting as it drew to a circse, victory finally resting with the bluejacknt team by one point only. The scores were
