[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Wednesday. Colonel Hume, Inspector of Volunteers, inspected the Naval Artillery corp3 this evening. The Hon. Mr. Mitchelson returned to Auckland this afternoon. During his stay he was present at a meeting of natives interested in the Piako Block, the title to which forms one of the questions to be settled by the Native Land Court now sitting here. At this meeting the whole question was discussed in a friendly spirit, and affairs were arranged so amicably that the Minister expressed himself as being very hopeful of bringing it to a successful conclusion at an adjourned meeting, to be held at Thames on the 9th proximo, on which occasion he intends spending throe or four days here. During that time he intends proceeding up the line of the Thames Railway as far as Paeroa, and has expressed his desire that any representatives of local bodies and other persons who may be interested in the completion of the railway will accompany him. If it can be shown to him that the returns which may be expected from the railway, if opened as far I as Paeroa, would justify the carrying out of 1 the work, he will recommend its immediate prosecution, and in this case the railway wharf at Koi>u would also be taken in hand,.
