THE UNITED GRAND LODGE OF MASONS.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, —May I be allowed through your columns to direct attention of Auckland Masons to the change of front in the ■attitude of those desiring the formation of . a United Grand Lodge for New Zealand. At the meeting previous to the last quarterly communication of D.G.L., and again at the latter itself, the contention was that the decision must be loft to the individual lodges, and that D.G. L. had no authority to act one way or the other. Instead of direct refusal to countenance this movement (which unquestionably would have resulted at either meeting), the matter was compromised by referring the proposal, together with resolution of Board of General Purposes, to each individual lodge, and seeking from them a speedy expression of opinion. The result of this, ib seems, is now becoming very doubtful to the advocates of Union," and a "P.M." is advo eating publicly the very reverse course insisted on at the preliminary meetings of tho English D.G.L., and invites a decision at the meeting called for the 9th April. Tho writer, who felt honoured by bearing office at home as a member of a world-wide institution, with a history reflecting credit, and a mighty prestige all its own, objects most emphatically to separation from tho parent stem, and relegation to a unit in a Little Pedlington association, which must inevitably and very speedily be again cut up into four smaller parts to suit the petty ambitions of the geographical centres of New Zealand.—l am, &e. Another P.M.
