VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

NEWTON RIFLES.

The ordinary weekly drill of this company was held at the drill shed last night. Captain Robertson was in command, with Lieutenants Taylor and Durham, and there was a very good muster of the company. Prior to the parade live new members, old volunteers, were elected. The company was put through a useful course of bayonet exercise and company drill by the officers. Tho firing for the company's champion bolt and money prizes took place on Saturday, and the belt, which was won by Volunteer Nutt, will be presented at a general parade. The ranges were 200, 300, 400, and 500 yards 5 shots at each range, and the following are the prize-winners : —Nutt, 58, company's belt and £3 10s ; Wright, 50, £2 ; Kayner, 48, £1 10s; Henderson, 42, £1; Potter, 42, 15s ; Church, 39, 10s; Stewart, 39, 7s Gd; Pitkethley, 36, ss; Herd, 36, 2s 6d.

RECEPTION OF THE CHAMPION SHOT.

District orders in regard to the parade for the reception of Sergeant Parslow of the "A" Battery, winner of the New Zealand Belt at the recent competition of the New Zealand Rifle Association, have been altered, because of a change in the timetable of the s.s. Gairloch, which is to bring Parslow and the other Auckland representatives to the Manukau. The steamer will arrive at Onohunga on Thursday afternoon, and the "A" Battery and Garrison Band are summoned to parado at half-past live o'clock to-morrow evening, at tho Drillshed. Other corps are invited to be present, and there will, no doubt, be a large attendance to welcome those who. have so worthily upheld the colours of the Auckland volunteers at the recent contests in Blenheim.
