PATCHED UP.
THE DISSENSIONS IN THE CABINET.
AN AGREEMENT COME TO. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN" CORRESPONDEXT.] kli.ix ;tox, Tuesday. I have reason to believe that the difference of opinion which was stated to exist in the Cabinet in respect of recent Customs seizures have been settled by a reference of the whole matters in dispute to the law officers, with discretion as to the mode of proceeding. I have taken some pains to verify the particulars forwarded to you last night, and have ascertained upon " authority" that they are substantially correct. I am led to understand that the " personal differences" within the Cabinet related wholly to the mode of procedure, which is now to bo adopted upon the advice of the law officer. There was no fundamental difference such as has been suggested, that one offender should be punished and the other delinquents be allowed to evade the law. As to the " heat" which, appears to have accompanied this discussion, it was not generated within the Cabinet, but imported from without. It has become almost entertaining to review the extraordinary way that facts and rumours are strung together in the endeavours of curious people to account for what they would wish to be true.
